Southern Spain’s luxury hospitality sector prepares for transformation as one of the region’s most prestigious equestrian resorts unveils its most ambitious expansion to date. Two distinct projects will extend the organisation’s footprint across the Costa del Sol, each designed to serve different aspects of the modern luxury market while preserving the refined, heritage-driven identity it has cultivated since its founding in 2015.

The developments encompass both a private, high-end retreat tailored to serious polo aficionados, and a broader lifestyle destination designed to engage a new generation of luxury travellers. Together, they underscore a growing demand among consumers for experiences that integrate sporting legacy with contemporary wellness, design, and hospitality, a convergence increasingly shaping the future of high-end leisure.

A Landmark Coastal Vision Takes Shape in Southern Spain

Set just metres from the Sotogrande marina, The Hills spans 34 hectares of prized Mediterranean coastline, anchored by a striking beachfront polo field that offers panoramic views stretching from Gibraltar to the distant peaks of Africa.

With construction costs projected at €320 million and an initial capital injection surpassing €120 million, the development represents one of the most ambitious undertakings in the region to date. A phased timeline through to 2030 reflects both the scale and complexity of the project, which is expected to create over 250 direct jobs and an additional 500 indirect roles, delivering meaningful economic impact across the local area.

At the heart of the development lies a five-star hotel and wellness retreat set to be operated by a globally recognised hospitality brand, details of which remain confidential. Signature dining concepts will accompany a curated beach club experience, complemented by world-class spa facilities that embody the essence of wellness. Sixteen architecturally designed villas provide private accommodation options with sweeping coastal perspectives.

The Boulevard: A Modern Take on Andalusian Village Life

Central to The Hills concept, The Boulevard recreates traditional Andalusian village architecture within a contemporary retail and residential framework. Designed to blend heritage architecture with modern functionality, the precinct offers a curated mix of boutique retail, artisanal cafés, and luxury residences within a pedestrian-first setting that honours the cultural vernacular of southern Spain.

The development incorporates an advanced private hospital alongside an integrated health and longevity centre. This medical component addresses growing demand amongst luxury consumers for comprehensive healthcare services within resort environments. A 500-space underground car park preserves the pedestrian character whilst ensuring practical accessibility.

The Owners Club: A Private Retreat for Polo’s Elite

Positioned in Casares, adjacent to the organisation’s original grounds, The Owners Club represents a return to roots, offering a private, high-performance retreat for professional riders, elite teams, and international polo organisations. The development pays homage to the location where the brand first established its reputation, while raising the bar for competitive equestrian sport in the region.

Six private barns accommodate 72 spacious stables, supported by a full-size competition polo field suitable for year-round use. World-class equine exercise facilities include a dedicated track designed to international standards. Professional management and staffing ensure consistent service levels throughout the year, creating 25 sustainable employment positions.

Christian Byrne, founder of the organisation, describes the project as “a sanctuary for the sport” that honours both the company’s origins and Sotogrande’s founding vision. Built with a deep respect for the surrounding landscape, The Owners Club achieves a rare equilibrium, delivering world-class sporting infrastructure while preserving the natural character of the land.

The Broader Impact of a New Luxury Ecosystem

Together, The Hills and The Owners Club are set to reposition Southern Spain as a rising epicentre for luxury sports tourism. By building upon the region’s existing infrastructure and introducing new layers of high-value amenities, from elite equestrian facilities to integrated wellness and medical services, these developments significantly expand the Costa del Sol’s appeal beyond its traditional beach and golf reputation.

The integration of private medical facilities within The Hills responds to post-pandemic preferences amongst luxury consumers with the desire for destinations that support holistic well-being, not just leisure.

The economic contribution is both immediate and long-term. Beyond direct employment across hospitality, equestrian, and wellness operations, the developments generate demand for skilled labour in construction, professional services, and ongoing infrastructure management. The projects contribute to skills development within the local workforce whilst attracting international talent to support operations.
