Rolls-Royce Motor Cars has unveiled the Phantom Arabesque, a one-of-one commission that marries world-class automotive engineering with the rich architectural heritage of the Middle East. Curated by the Private Office Dubai, this landmark Phantom is the first in Rolls-Royce history to feature a laser-engraved bonnet, a technique five years in the making, alongside a suite of Bespoke interior motifs and a Gallery of intricate marquetry inspired by traditional mashrabiya latticework.

The result is a car that takes the form of a mobile work of art. It is truly a a manifestation of Rolls-Royce’s commitment to contemporary craft, cultural storytelling, and technical innovation.
“Mashrabiya is one of the Middle East’s most enduring design languages. Our aim was to interpret not only its beauty, but also the privacy, light, and airflow it creates. We wanted to translate these qualities in ways that feel both culturally rooted and unmistakably Rolls-Royce.” Michelle Lusby, Bespoke Lead Designer, Private Office Dubai
A Tribute to Mashrabiya
Mashrabiya latticework is a defining feature of traditional Middle Eastern architecture, found in homes, palaces, and courtyards across the region. These intricately carved wooden screens are designed to allow those inside to look out without being seen, providing privacy while allowing airflow and diffused light. Decorative, functional, and perfectly suited to the climate, mashrabiya patterns are as much about utility as they are about beauty.

For the Phantom Arabesque, Rolls-Royce sought to translate these enduring geometric forms into the language of automotive design. The mashrabiya motif recurs across the car’s surfaces, interpreted in multiple ways: as the first-ever laser-engraved bonnet, as marquetry artwork within the interior Gallery, and as hand-painted, embroidered, and illuminated Bespoke motifs subtly integrated throughout the cabin.

The World’s First Laser-Engraved Bonnet
A defining feature of Phantom Arabesque is also a technical milestone, the first Rolls-Royce ever to feature a fully laser-engraved bonnet. This revolutionary technique, developed over five years at the Home of Rolls-Royce by the marque’s Exterior Surface Centre, draws inspiration from the Italian sgraffito tradition, in which artists reveal contrasting layers of colour by precisely removing upper surfaces.

To achieve the effect, Rolls-Royce engineers first applied a darker base coat to the bonnet, sealed it beneath multiple layers of clearcoat, and then applied a lighter top layer. The mashrabiya pattern is engraved into the top layer to a depth of just 145–190 microns, revealing the darker tone beneath. The result is a textured, three-dimensional surface that interacts with light, inviting exploration both visually and tactilely.
“Laser engraving allows us to create a surface that is both technically precise and visually alive. Developing this patented process required years of experimentation by the entire team. Phantom Arabesque is the first expression of a technique that opens entirely new creative possibilities for future clients.” Tobias Sicheneder, General Manager, Exterior Surface Centre, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars

Every engraved area is hand-sanded, ensuring a sculptural, flawless finish. By embedding the pattern within the paint rather than applying it on top, Rolls-Royce achieves exceptional refinement and durability. Subtle shifts in laser intensity create dynamic visual effects as light moves across the surface, bringing the pattern to life in a way that is simultaneously precise and organic.
Exterior Elegance
The Phantom Arabesque presents a Bespoke two-tone finish, with the main body in Diamond Black and upper surfaces in contrasting Silver. A single hand-painted Short Coachline, adorned with a mashrabiya motif, traces the car’s silhouette, while the illuminated Pantheon grille, framed in Dark Chrome, adds subtle drama. The Spirit of Ecstasy figurine, uplit to catch the light, crowns the car with timeless elegance, and 22-inch part-polished alloy wheels complete the commanding presence.

Every exterior detail serves to enhance the geometric inspiration of the mashrabiya pattern. From the interplay of light across the bonnet engraving to the coachline motif, Rolls-Royce ensures that heritage and innovation are inseparable, a hallmark of the marque’s approach to Bespoke design.
A Study in Subtle Luxury
Inside the Phantom Arabesque, restraint and cultural storytelling coexist in perfect harmony. The Gallery, which spans the full width of the front fascia, is adorned with a marquetry artwork crafted from Blackwood and Black Bolivar wood. The geometric mashrabiya motif is subtly mirrored in an offset clock, creating a focal point that feels both sculptural and serene.
The cabin’s colour palette of Selby Grey and Black leather embodies this sense of calm, while Black mashrabiya motifs embroidered on front and rear headrests provide a subtle, elegant nod to the car’s architectural inspiration. Starlight Doors, trimmed with Selby Grey piping and Black contrast stitching, lend a soft, ethereal glow, while illuminated treadplates, bearing a cross-section of the bonnet engraving motif, complete the immersive experience.
Every material and detail has been chosen specifically from the feel of the hand-stitched leather to the tactile quality of the marquetry, Phantom Arabesque demonstrates Rolls-Royce’s mastery of craft that engages the senses as much as the eyes.

A Piece of the Patron’s World
