Porsche is commemorating the 50th anniversary of the 911 Turbo by launching a distinguished anniversary edition of this legendary sports car. The 911 Turbo 50 Years merges superior performance and the finest materials with unique design features, making it a quintessential model for collectors and enthusiasts alike.

The 911 Turbo 50 Years is a limited edition, with only 1,974 units being produced. This number is a tribute to the year 1974, when the original 911 Turbo made its groundbreaking debut. The model is based on the last-generation 911 Turbo S, introduced in 2019, and is imbued with elements that pay homage to its illustrious predecessors.

Design and Aesthetic Features

Externally, the 911 Turbo 50 Years evokes the design of historic 911 Turbo models, enriched with modern styling elements. The standard side vinyl graphics harken back to the iconic livery of the Porsche 911 RSR Turbo showcased at the 1973 Frankfurt Motor Show. The vehicle features Porsche’s exclusive Turbonite color for the first time on a 911, used on inlays in the rear engine cover, the fuel tank cap, and the Porsche crest. This unique color also accents the Turbo 50 model logo.

Additional historical references include Anthracite Grey applied to the rear wing blade, rear apron, mirror base, and air intake trims. A badge on the rear engine cover grille features a turbocharger icon alongside the years 1974-2024. Another notable feature is the LED door projector, which illuminates the ground with an image of a turbocharger when the door is opened. The model also comes with 911 Turbo S Exclusive Design wheels in Turbonite as standard.

Interior: A Nod to the 1970s

Inside, the 911 Turbo 50 Years is a tribute to the early Turbo models, featuring the iconic McKenzie tartan on the seat covers and door panels. Turbonite accents further distinguish the interior, with highlights on seat belts, controls, decorative stitching, and trim strips. The Porsche crest embellishes the GT sports steering wheel, and an illuminated Turbo 50 logo adorns the door kick plates. The logo is also embroidered on the headrests of the Adaptive Sports Seats Plus and on the back of the left rear seat. An anniversary plaque above the glove compartment, bearing the Turbo 50 logo and the car’s limited-edition number, adds a final touch of exclusivity.

Heritage Design Package

For those seeking even more historical flair, the optional 50 Years of Turbo Heritage Design Package enhances the anniversary model with additional exclusive design and equipment features reminiscent of the 1970s. The base colour for this package is Aventurine Green Metallic, although other colors from the standard 911 palette and the Paint to Sample program are also available. A high-quality decorative graphic in White (satin finish) includes the lollipop with selectable car numbers, the 50 years of Turbo logo, and a Porsche logo. These elements can be individually selected or omitted for a minimalist look.

The Heritage Design Package also includes the historic Porsche crest from 1964 on the front bonnet and the centre caps of the Sport Classic wheels, which are painted in Brilliant Silver and White (satin finish). Inside, additional leather features and tartan design elements enhance the dashboard trim, glove box, and seat backrests. The Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur logo is embossed on the centre console storage compartment, and the dials in the instrument cluster and Sport Chrono clock are finished in green.

Performance and Technical Specifications

The 911 Turbo 50 Years boasts impressive performance, powered by a 3.7-litre boxer engine with variable turbine geometry (VTG) twin turbocharging. It delivers 478 kW (650 PS) and 800 Newton metres of torque, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.7 seconds and reaching 200 km/h in 8.9 seconds. The power is transmitted via an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission (PDK) and the active all-wheel-drive Porsche Traction Management (PTM) system with Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus). Standard features include a sports exhaust system with black tailpipes, a 10 mm-lower Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) sports suspension, and the lift system on the front axle. The LED matrix headlights with Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus and black-finished brake callipers of the PCCB brake system further enhance the model’s performance and safety.

Exclusive Timepiece

Porsche Design Timepieces has crafted a special chronograph to accompany the 911 Turbo 50 Years, exclusively for the vehicle’s owners. Limited to 1,974 units, this timepiece features the COSC-certified Porsche Design WERK 01.200 movement with flyback function. The black dial with Turbonite elements mirrors the car’s dashboard clock, and the strap is made of black vehicle leather with Turbonite stitching. The titanium housing’s transparent case back reveals a winding rotor styled like the 911 Turbo 50’s wheels, and the limited-edition number matches the vehicle’s edition number. A special version of the chronograph is also available with the Heritage Design Package.

Deliveries of the 911 Turbo 50 Years will commence in autumn 2024. Currently, the model is on display at the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen as part of the ongoing “Beyond Performance – 50 Years of Porsche Turbo” special exhibition, providing a unique opportunity for enthusiasts to experience this milestone in automotive history.
