Lake Como has long been synonymous with elegance, drawing visitors seeking both refinement and respite amid its scenic shores. Yet, despite the region’s reputation for luxury, its dining landscape has remained traditionally Italian. That balance shifts with the opening of Restaurant 1827 – Sushi & Fusion Bar at Grand Hotel Victoria, the five-star flagship of R Collection Hotels in Menaggio. As the first dedicated Japanese fusion concept on the lake, 1827 introduces a sophisticated culinary dialogue that bridges two distinct gastronomic worlds.

Guided by the philosophy “Where the world converges” the restaurant marries Japanese culinary precision with the richness of Mediterranean ingredients. Diners are invited to explore a curated selection of sushi, nigiri, and sashimi, alongside inventive small plates that reinterpret Italian produce through Japanese techniques.

Restaurant 1827 occupies a contemporary space within the historic Grand Hotel Victoria, where light and design work together to create a welcoming, serene atmosphere. Floor-to-ceiling windows open onto sweeping views of Lake Como, letting the water and sky frame the dining experience.

Inside, neutral tones and clean lines are punctuated by eclectic accents, while tables are thoughtfully spaced to give diners room to relax and savour each moment. Every detail has been considered to make the experience feel effortless, comfortable, and quietly luxurious.

Crafting a Culinary Dialogue

At the heart of 1827 lies a dialogue between culinary traditions. Japanese methods guide preparation and presentation,  whilst Italian ingredients, fresh and seasonal, provide both flavour and context, anchoring the menu in its Mediterranean surroundings. Each dish is curated with intention, from delicate raw preparations to compose small plates.

Signature offerings include edamame subtly enlivened with Tuscan chilli, wakame seaweed brightened with Sicilian citrus, and sushi featuring local fish prepared with traditional Edomae techniques. Seasonal small plates might showcase lightly grilled vegetables, seafood, or Italian herbs.

A Complete Escape

Restaurant 1827 operates within Grand Hotel Victoria’s broader luxury portfolio, which includes the award-winning ERRE Spa, the exclusive Victoria Beach Club, and private boat tours across the lake. This integration allows guests to construct complete experiences, with the restaurant functioning as one element of a cohesive stay rather than an isolated dining destination.

The restaurant welcomes both hotel guests and outside diners, though reservations are advisable given limited capacity and growing local interest. Opening hours accommodate both lunch and dinner service, with the dining room taking full advantage of natural light during daytime and lake views throughout evening service.
