Massimo Perotti, Chairman and CEO of Sanlorenzo Group, exudes enthusiasm as the company continues to reach significant milestones. Whether engaging with clients, brokers, and media at St. Katharine Docks in London, christening the first Sanlorenzo yacht to convert green methanol into energy, or discussing the integration of art and yachting at La Biennale di Venezia, Perotti captivates his audience with his passion.
Perotti envisions a future for Sanlorenzo that marries luxury with sustainability. These are essential elements for an increasing number of new yacht buyers. Sanlorenzo is a “playground for design choices,” Perotti asserts, highlighting the company’s commitment to involving each family in the design process to create highly customised yachts.
Sanlorenzo fosters a unique interaction with new buyers, encouraging them to ask questions, share their visions, and build relationships that shape their yacht’s construction. This approach ensures that owners feel at home on the sea, experiencing their dream destinations in comfort, style, and safety.
Perotti and Sanlorenzo Yachts UK recently showcased the Sanlorenzo 90A at St. Katharine Docks from March 11-24. This event allowed British customers to experience the brand’s excellence in a classic London setting. The 28-meter asymmetric customised build, designed by Bernardo Zuccon, featured light, modern interiors with wood, marble, and fabric textures, demonstrating the brand’s quality and innovation.
The Sanlorenzo 90A, with its unique port side deck moved to the upper deck, offers a more spacious salon and additional volume. This 24-meter yacht accommodates eight guests, has a cruising speed of 25 knots, and an 1100 nm range at an eco cruising speed of 10 knots.
On May 18, Sanlorenzo launched the 50Steel Almax at their La Spezia yard, marking a significant achievement in sustainability. This superyacht, featuring the Reformer-Fuel Cell system developed with Siemens Energy, converts green methanol into hydrogen and then into electrical energy, eliminating the need for large hydrogen storage. This technology enables carbon-neutral operation, covering about 90 percent of typical superyacht usage with zero emissions.
The 50Steel Almax features innovative interior architecture with five uniquely staggered decks, four guest cabins, an owner’s suite, pools on the beach club and sun deck, and a 150-square-meter beach club. The yacht also introduces the HER, Horizontal Engine Room, layout for enhanced headroom and space efficiency.
Sanlorenzo’s Bluegame Division has developed hydrogen-powered chase boats for the America’s Cup. Described by Perotti as “an extreme project,” the launch of the first unit for American Magic and a second for the French Orient Express team represents a significant technological and sustainable advancement. These boats can reach speeds of 50 knots with a 180-mile range powered solely by hydrogen. The success of this project will lead to a BGH hydrogen hybrid multihull in 2026, promising 80 miles of zero-emission navigation.
When Perotti succeeded Sanlorenzo founder Giovanni Jannetti, he spent a year under Jannetti’s guidance. Reflecting on this period, Perotti notes, “The year I worked alongside Giovanni Jannetti was perhaps the toughest year of my life, but also the one in which I learned the most.” Jannetti’s influence remains a cornerstone of Sanlorenzo’s approach to luxury yachting, emphasising craftsmanship, passion, and style. Perotti affirms, “Giovanni taught us to be the tailors of yachting, to give our best for extraordinary and tailor-made products, never forgetting that our goal is the joy and satisfaction of the customer.”
Jannetti’s gentlemanly demeanour continues to inspire Sanlorenzo managers. Perotti summarises, “His true gentlemanly demeanour, rich in understatement, which is not easy to find in yachting where grandeur is often the norm, remains a great source of inspiration for me and all Sanlorenzo managers to this day.”
