Where horological innovation meets popular culture, Omega and Swatch have once again captured the zeitgeist with the unveiling of two new MoonSwatch editions, featuring the iconic “Snoopy” character. The collaboration, which has become a hallmark of accessible luxury in the 21st century, introduces the Omega x Swatch Bioceramic MoonSwatch Mission to the Moonphase in both a pristine white and a profound black edition.

The unveiling, which followed a series of tantalising teasers on social media platforms such as Instagram, marks the latest chapter in the MoonSwatch narrative—a collection that has effortlessly blended Swatch’s playful design ethos with Omega’s precision craftsmanship. The white edition, christened the Omega x Swatch Bioceramic MoonSwatch Mission to the Moonphase, and its counterpart, the Omega x Swatch Bioceramic MoonSwatch Mission to the Moonphase – New Moon, represent a pivotal moment in this collaborative journey.

Central to both timepieces is the depiction of Snoopy, the beloved beagle, poised on a crescent moon at the 2 o’clock position, a homage not only to the character’s enduring appeal but also to the historical ties between Omega, Swatch, and space exploration. These models also stand as the inaugural instances of the brand melding a chronograph function with a moonphase display, highlighting Swatch’s commitment to innovation.

Both models are powered by a new quartz chronograph caliber, featuring a moonphase complication at the 2 o’clock subdial, a notable advancement from the basic ETA quartz chronograph mechanism used in earlier MoonSwatch variants. Despite the shared core technology, Swatch maintains a veil of secrecy over the precise caliber utilised, adhering to its tradition of mystique.

The designs pay tribute to Snoopy in various ingenious manners, including a moonphase dial where Snoopy, accompanied by Woodstock, lounges on a crescent moon. Additionally, the watch’s reverse showcases a moon illustration, distinguished by a Snoopy paw print on the battery cover—a nod to the character’s significance in Omega and Swatch’s storied collaboration with NASA.

The watches also beckon to enthusiasts of Omega’s “Silver Snoopy” awards, particularly through the white-dialed Mission to Moonphase model, which evokes the design language of previous Omega Snoopy editions, blending heritage with contemporary flair.

An intriguing feature shared by both models is a hidden message that comes to light under UV illumination, a testament to the brands’ flair for incorporating playful secrets into their designs. This UV-reactive ink not only illuminates the moonphase but also unveils a constellation of stars and a whimsical message from Snoopy: “I can’t sleep without a night light!”

Distinctive features set the black and white models apart, beyond their contrasting colour schemes. A clever design tweak sees Snoopy positioned on different celestial bodies in each model, affecting the presentation of the moonphase on the dial—a detail that aficionados will appreciate.

Availability of the MoonSwatch Mission to Moonphase series remains exclusive, with purchases possible only in select Swatch stores—a strategy that, while challenging for consumers, underscores the desirability and allure of these limited editions. Despite the anticipated high demand, the non-limited status of these watches offers a glimmer of hope for enthusiasts aiming to add these unique timepieces to their collections in the future.

The release dates have been staggered, with the white version already launched on March 26 and the black version scheduled for release on April 8, prompting potential buyers to mark their calendars for what promises to be a memorable addition to the Swatch and Omega legacy.
