The Montcalm Marble Arch is poised for an exciting rebirth in Spring 2025, following an extensive renovation that commenced after its closure in March 2023. This historic hotel, located in one of London’s most prestigious addresses, will re-emerge with a pioneering concept: ‘sensitive luxury.’ This innovative approach seeks to harmonise contemporary values with the hotel’s classic architecture, creating an inviting atmosphere that is both refreshing and nurturing.

Positioned at the top of Park Lane, the five-star Montcalm Marble Arch offers a unique blend of location and charm. Just a stone’s throw from Hyde Park and the bustling West End, this iconic establishment will introduce a holistic hospitality experience, underpinned by its commitment to warmth and uplifting service.

The refurbishment encompasses an impressive array of features, including 150 elegantly designed guest rooms and suites, a sophisticated signature restaurant, a vibrant destination bar, and contemporary meeting and event spaces, highlighted by a 400 sq m Grand Ballroom. The emphasis on wellness will be evident throughout, with dedicated spa facilities and a health-focused programme, reinforcing the hotel’s commitment to both relaxation and rejuvenation.

A Thoughtful Restoration

The Montcalm Marble Arch’s renovation has been entrusted to award-winning architects Holland Harvey and interior designers Studio Mica. They have respectfully restored the building’s Grade II-listed Georgian façade, an architectural gem that suffered damage during WWII and was reconstructed in the 1970s. The restoration celebrates the building’s history while introducing modern elements, including floor-to-ceiling windows that enhance natural light in the guest rooms without compromising privacy. The extension on the Quebec Mews side emulates a traditional mansard roof, maintaining the character of the neighbourhood.

The interiors are a testament to the seamless blend of historical elegance and contemporary design. Studio Est has infused the public areas with sophistication, creating spaces that feel welcoming and homely. Rich, earthy tones are complemented by organic materials such as oak, marble, and brass. Sustainable touches are evident in handcrafted furniture produced by social-impact businesses, fostering a connection to the local community.

A Landmark for Montcalm Collection

Nadira Lalji, Director of Precis Advisory Limited, expressed her enthusiasm for the reopening, stating, “We’re most excited by the reopening of Montcalm Marble Arch, as this characterful independent spirit heralds a new flagship for our small collection of hotels. A thoughtful top-to-toe renovation that shows fresh imagination thanks to our creative team excited to share their love of stories, characters and history from its neighbourhood.”

Samantha van Exter of Montcalm Collection further emphasised the significance of this project, noting, “In a significant milestone for the Montcalm Collection, our iconic, historic address at Montcalm Marble Arch will be reborn, fusing classic Georgian architecture with an artful, modern spirit. We are looking forward to offering our guests the true Montcalm Experience at our new jewel in the Montcalm Collection this Autumn.”

Personalised Guest Experience

The Montcalm Experience will extend across its 150 guest rooms, featuring three signature suites, including the exclusive Botanical Suite, which boasts its own entrance on Berkeley Street. Guest rooms will be adorned with personalised welcome amenities inspired by notable figures tied to the area’s cultural history, such as Elizabeth Montagu and George Bridgetower. The artistic integration continues with letters from creative students at Goldsmiths College and bespoke artworks created by emerging artists from six UK art schools.

The hotel’s dining offerings are set to captivate, with a signature restaurant and an immersive afternoon tea experience. The bar, characterised by a beautifully illuminated curved glass gantry and nods to London’s Marble Arch through three marble arches, will serve as a vibrant gathering space from morning through evening.

Wellness and Mindfulness

Montcalm Marble Arch will prioritise wellness with a subterranean spa that includes a plunge pool, wellness facilities, and a fully-equipped fitness suite. Couples and solo guests will find solace in four treatment rooms, offering a menu of indulgent spa services using all-natural products.

Curated Artistic Experience

Art will play a central role in the hotel’s identity, with curated pieces from international and local artists. Notable contributions from creatives such as Jake Messing and Petra Börner will enhance the aesthetic appeal, tying the unique location to high-quality craftsmanship.

Versatile Event Spaces

The hotel’s design allows for a range of event spaces, from the intimate Library, ideal for corporate lunches and private celebrations, to the Grand Ballroom, capable of accommodating up to 320 dinner guests. This pillarless space features bespoke wood panelling and clean lines, showcasing Montcalm’s dedication to design excellence. A series of curated events and talks will engage guests with influential figures across various fields, including history, philosophy, and the arts.
