In a strategic move to bolster its alternative investments portfolio, Investec has announced the appointment of Alicia Forry as the head of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) within its Investec Alternative Investment Management (IAIM) arm, signalling a heightened focus on sustainable investment practices within the European mid-market private credit sphere.

Alicia Forry, a seasoned professional with extensive experience in ESG products and cross-sector research, steps into her new role at IAIM, a platform renowned for its innovative credit strategies tailored for the private market. This appointment leverages Forry’s deep expertise in ESG considerations and her nearly seven-year tenure leading UK equities ESG products and overseeing cross-sector ESG research for UK-listed companies at Investec.

“Alicia’s expertise will be invaluable to our team – helping us to embed ESG considerations into every stage of our investment process. At a time when the sustainability credentials of a business are increasingly under scrutiny, we believe that top ESG performers have an increased edge in delivering long-term value creation for shareholders.”

Callum Bell, Director – IAIM

IAIM distinguishes itself through its adept use of Investec’s direct lending team, which is specialised in originating and managing proprietary deal flows. The firm’s direct lending strategy is particularly focused on the lower-mid market across Europe, managing assets in excess of £3bn ($3.7bn). IAIM offers investors unique access to these markets through a variety of co-investment opportunities, funds, and mandates, enriching the investment landscape with a multitude of private market investment options.

Forry’s contributions to ESG have been significant, supporting over 1,500 corporations and investors in integrating sustainable practices. Her role in Investec’s sustainable business forum further exemplifies her commitment to facilitating the transition towards a net-zero economy, underscoring the integral role of responsible investing within the company’s ethos.

“It is a pleasure to join the IAIM team and continue working within the mid-market to enhance its ESG credentials – building on Investec’s expertise in this area. Our research recently found that 7 in 10 mid-market firms in the UK are currently planning, implementing, or have already implemented an ESG strategy – with the majority believing it makes their business more attractive to potential acquirers and investors. I look forward to working with corporates committed to developing their ESG credentials and unlocking the various layers of unrealised value they can provide investors.”
