The unveiling of Maserati’s MCPURA at the Goodwood Festival of Speed signals the brand’s return to its performance roots, built entirely at the historic Modena facility where the company has operated for nearly 90 years. The MCPURA takes the foundation laid by the MC20 and amplifies every element to create what the manufacturer calls “the purest expression of energy and performance the Trident way.”

Santo Ficili, Maserati COO, explained the significance: “With MCPURA, Maserati is once again regaining its rightful place: at the top and in its stomping ground. Both versions – coupé and Cielo – are created at our historic Modena facility, where the heart of the Trident has been beating for almost 90 years.” The company’s position as the oldest automotive marque in Italy’s Motor Valley carries weight, and this latest creation builds upon that heritage while pushing technological boundaries.

Formula 1 power meets road-legal refinement

The heart of the MCPURA remains the 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 Nettuno engine, a powerplant that showcases genuine innovation rather than incremental improvement. This unit delivers 630 CV at 7,500 rpm and 720 Nm of torque from 3,000 rpm, achieving a power-to-weight ratio of 210 CV per litre. The engine’s standout feature lies in its pre-chamber combustion system with twin spark plugs, technology derived directly from Formula 1 racing.

The manufacturer holds international patents for this system, which allows the engine to extract maximum efficiency from each combustion cycle. This technology transforms what could have been another turbocharged V6 into something genuinely different. The result is an engine that responds with the immediacy expected from a naturally aspirated unit while maintaining the efficiency advantages of forced induction.

Carbon-fibre construction delivers exceptional dynamics

The MCPURA’s carbon-fibre monocoque construction achieves the critical balance between structural rigidity and weight reduction. Total weight comes in at under 1,500kg, creating a power-to-weight ratio of 2.33 kg per CV. This figure places the car firmly in best-in-class territory, where every kilogram saved translates directly to improved acceleration and handling dynamics.

The carbon-fibre structure becomes visible through the distinctive “Butterfly” doors, which serve both aesthetic and practical purposes. These doors improve access to the passenger compartment while showcasing the engineering beneath. The design choice reflects the car’s philosophy of combining function with visual drama, ensuring occupants understand they’re experiencing something built without compromise.

Revolutionary glass roof technology

The convertible variant, known as MCPURA Cielo, introduces polymer-dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC) glass technology to the supercar segment. This retractable roof system can switch from opaque to transparent in just one second, creating three distinct driving experiences. With the roof closed and opaque, occupants enjoy a traditional coupe environment. The transparent setting provides what the company calls a “sky feeling” while maintaining structural integrity. Finally, the fully retractable position delivers the open-air experience expected from a convertible.

This glass roof represents the first application of PDLC technology in this class of vehicle. The system addresses one of the fundamental challenges of convertible supercars: maintaining structural rigidity while providing multiple roof configurations. The technology eliminates the need for a traditional folding roof mechanism, saving weight and complexity while offering functionality that no mechanical system could match.

Customisation programme reflects Italian artisanship

The MCPURA benefits from the Maserati Fuoriserie customisation programme, which offers over thirty body colours across solid, metallic, three-layer, four-layer, and matte finishes. Three new options debut with this model: Devil Orange, which combines vibrant energy with audacity; Verde Royale, a sophisticated metallic shade; and Night Interaction, a luxurious dual-layer finish.

The Goodwood presentation showcased the Ai Aqua Rainbow body colour, designed specifically for the Fuoriserie programme. This finish changes appearance in sunlight, producing a rainbow effect inspired by white light passing through a prism. The coupé wore a matte version while the Cielo displayed the gloss variant, demonstrating the programme’s attention to detail.

Interior appointments include Alcantara Ice seats with laser-etched Trident logos, creating a futuristic appearance through three-dimensional processing. The double-sided backing features iridescent red with blue and iridescent blue with red, echoing the exterior colour themes while emphasising the car’s sporting character.

Production maintains Modena heritage

The MCPURA joins the GT2 Stradale in production at the Viale Ciro Menotti facility in Modena, with the GranTurismo and GranCabrio joining the lineup from Q4 2025. The facility houses the Officine Maserati Fuoriserie, a dedicated space for the most refined customisation work. This arrangement ensures the MCPURA follows a completely Italian production path from development through final paintwork.

The company’s commitment to Modena production reinforces its position in the Motor Valley, where proximity to suppliers and skilled craftsmen creates advantages that cannot be replicated elsewhere. Each MCPURA completes its journey from engine assembly to final customisation within the same facility, maintaining quality control throughout the process.

Available immediately in both coupé and convertible configurations, the MCPURA establishes itself as Maserati’s new flagship, combining proven mechanical excellence with innovative technology and traditional Italian craftsmanship. The car demonstrates that even in an era of electrification, there remains space for internal combustion engines that push technological boundaries while delivering the emotional connection that defines the Maserati experience.
