At the Goodwood Festival of Speed, Oracle Red Bull Racing unveiled the RB17, a hypercar designed by the legendary Adrian Newey in collaboration with Red Bull Advanced Technologies. This remarkable vehicle was presented by Christian Horner, Team Principal and CEO of Oracle Red Bull Racing, alongside Adrian Newey, Group Chief Technical Officer, and Rob Gray, Technical Director at Red Bull Advanced Technologies.
The RB17, a culmination of two decades of Formula One innovation, builds on the expertise that has led Oracle Red Bull Racing to six Constructors’ titles. With a two-seater carbon fibre monocoque chassis, the RB17 is powered by a semi-stressed, mid-mounted, naturally aspirated V10 engine, capable of redlining at an astounding 15,000 rpm.
This power is efficiently delivered to the rear wheels through a carbon fibre gearbox, enabling the hypercar to weigh under 900 kg while boasting over 1,200 HP. The RB17 promises F1-equivalent lap times and top speeds exceeding 350 kph, all while being designed for ease of ownership and operation.
Red Bull Advanced Technologies oversees the entire process from concept development to final delivery, ensuring that each of the 50 RB17 units is meticulously crafted.
Striking from Every Angle
Every RB17 owner becomes part of the Red Bull family, enjoying a comprehensive customer journey that includes exclusive track events at some of the world’s most renowned circuits. This bespoke experience extends to one-of-a-kind driver development programs and the opportunity to tailor the car to individual preferences, from exterior paint to interior materials and finer details.
Christian Horner expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “We are excited to reveal the RB17 at Goodwood Festival of Speed, a project that is one of the most authentic and exciting that Red Bull Advanced Technologies has embarked upon to date. With 20 years of legacy in the world of F1 to draw from, and as a performance-centred organisation, it only made sense for us to design our own Hypercar from the ground up. Combining technical innovation, achievement, and emotional appeal, the RB17 is a landmark car. I’m very proud of the Team and am delighted to see it make its world debut. We expect the RB17 to be a future classic.”
Adrian Newey, reflecting on the project’s significance, added, “I had been mulling around the idea to take on the challenge to design our very own Hypercar, from concept to delivery, for many years and it has been a magnificent project and journey. For it to finally be the day we pull the covers off and see the birth of the RB17, is truly remarkable. The RB17 Hypercar embraces everything we stand for: undeniable power, speed, and beauty. It is very adaptable in its abilities, and we made sure to design it as a two-seater so that the thrill of driving at F1 speeds can be enjoyed with a friend or partner.”
Rob Gray emphasised the engineering prowess behind the RB17, saying, “The RB17 is an amazing project that we are privileged to work on, and has allowed Red Bull Advanced Technologies to showcase our engineering, design, and technical capabilities and solutions. We cannot wait to see the finished cars being enjoyed to the full on a racetrack by racing and automotive enthusiasts alike.”
With its unveiling, the RB17 not only represents a pinnacle of automotive engineering but also stands as a testament to Red Bull’s relentless pursuit of performance excellence and innovation.
