What’s new for 2026

The biggest rules overhaul in more than a decade:

  • Lighter cars – minimum weight down 30kg, from 800kg to 770kg
  • Active aerodynamics – movable front and rear wings replace DRS
  • Smaller footprint – wheelbase cut 200mm to 3,400mm; width cut 100mm to 1,900mm
  • New power units – an even split between combustion and electric power (previously 80:20); MGU-K output up from 120kW to 350kW; MGU-H removed
  • Sustainable fuel – the field runs on fully sustainable fuel for the first time
  • New manufacturers – fresh names have joined the grid under the new formula

Silverstone’s fast, flowing layout makes it one of the first true tests of how the new cars handle at speed.
