Four Seasons Resort Bali has appointed Nicolas Laufrais as Senior Director of Commercial, a role overseeing both the beachfront Four Seasons Resort Bali at Jimbaran Bay and the jungle-set Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan. Laufrais brings more than 15 years of experience in luxury hospitality, having held senior commercial positions across international brands in Europe, French Polynesia and South East Asia.
The appointment reflects Four Seasons’ commitment to integrated commercial leadership across its Bali portfolio whilst honouring the distinct character and positioning of each resort. Laufrais will shape commercial strategy that balances unified commercial objectives with the unique strengths of each property.
A career in luxury hospitality and commercial leadership
Prior to joining Four Seasons, Laufrais spent two years as a key figure in Bali’s hospitality landscape, leading commercial positioning and launch strategy at Regent Bali Canggu. His tenure there embedded him deeply in the island’s resort sector, providing direct insight into competitive dynamics and market positioning within the region.
Earlier in his career, Laufrais served as Head of Commercial at InterContinental Cascais-Estoril in Portugal, where he strengthened luxury partnerships and refined lifestyle positioning in a competitive European market. His experience in the ultra-luxury segment was further developed during his tenure as Director of Sales and Marketing at Conrad Bora Bora Nui, where he managed commercial strategy in one of the world’s most selective hospitality environments.
Commercial vision and authentic positioning
Laufrais articulates a vision of luxury hospitality grounded in emotional authenticity. “Luxury travel today is about emotional resonance,” he states. “The resorts offer distinctive experiences in two remarkable settings. My focus is to strengthen global positioning whilst ensuring each initiative reflects the authenticity, heritage and sense of connection that define these resorts.”
This philosophy underscores his approach to managing two resorts with markedly different settings and identities. Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan is positioned around its secluded jungle setting along the Ayung River, rooted in Bali’s spiritual traditions. Conversely, Four Seasons Resort Bali at Jimbaran Bay presents a beachfront environment centred on Balinese culture and relaxed coastal living. Rather than imposing uniformity, Laufrais’s strategy respects these distinctions whilst aligning them within a shared commercial framework.
Balancing individual identity with unified strategy
The challenge of leading two resorts with strong individual identities whilst developing cohesive commercial strategy is central to the role. Laufrais emphasises this balance: “To lead the commercial strategy for two resorts that reflect Bali so distinctly, from the oceanfront setting of Jimbaran Bay to the serenity of Sayan, is a meaningful responsibility. Individually, each resort has a strong identity; together, they represent the breadth of the island’s culture, landscape and sense of place.”
His responsibilities encompass oversight of sales, marketing and revenue management initiatives, with emphasis on local context and authenticity. Commercial planning will be aligned with the character of each property, ensuring that global positioning strategies remain grounded in the cultural and environmental distinctiveness that differentiates both resorts within the luxury market.
