Grade I listed 18th Century mansion Hawkstone Hall & Gardens has opened its doors again to guests, following major renovations to the property.
Based in the beautiful rolling countryside of Shropshire and Welsh Valleys, this stunning Georgian mansion has become a luxury hotel for the first time in its 550-year history.
Holding 37 bedrooms in total, this retreat stands elegantly surrounded by 88 acres of manicured lawns, boasting a rose garden, croquet lawn, apple orchard, ancient cemetery, over a mile of footpaths, and a wonderfully romantic ‘secret garden’.
Guests approach the stunning property via a mile-long gravel driveway. Upon reaching the mansion, guests are met with a magnificent main hall, boasting opulent antique furniture, rich drapes and high ceilings.
The main hall hosts 12 sumptuous suites, all of which are named after British artists, writers, poets, and playwrights. All suites feature breathtaking chandeliers, four-poster beds, deep mattresses, and palatial bathrooms with cast-iron bathtubs.
The Orangery Wing adjacent to the main building has also undergone complete renovations, encompassing a further 25 bedrooms. Inside the rooms, colour tones mirror that of the main hall using the soft hues of duck-egg blue and calamine pink.
The restoration project, overseen by designer Kay Petrouis, showcases an array of original features that have been exposed to visually divulge the rich history of the property, while an English heritage colour palette has been used throughout.
Hannah Petrouis, group development director, says: “Hawkstone Hall & Gardens is one of only two Grade I listed buildings in Shropshire. After two years of renovations, the property has been restored to its former glory and we are looking forward to welcoming guests.
“It has been a major project and we have thoroughly enjoyed uncovering some of the lost and hidden features of the building and splendid gardens.”
Martin Hirst, venues director, continued: “We are extremely proud to be playing such a significant part in the history of this magnificent Grade I listed building and we look forward to a very exciting future at Hawkstone Hall & Gardens.”
The property and grounds offer the ideal backdrop for luxury corporate events, yoga and fitness retreats, and memorable celebrations. A spacious entertainment space alongside varied accommodation options means the retreat will rival the very best of the UK’s event venues.
