The Confederation of British Industry (CBI) has announced a strategic leadership transition within its South West division, appointing Carmen Peacock as the new chair. Peacock, who currently serves as the head of South West and Wales corporate and institutional banking at Lloyds Bank, succeeds Adrian Bratt, following his commendable three-year tenure.
Since joining the CBI Regional Council in 2019, Peacock has been instrumental in amplifying the South West’s business community on a national level, fostering collaboration with local enterprises to ensure comprehensive regional representation.
Reflecting on her appointment, Peacock articulated her vision for the South West, a region distinguished by its vibrant business ecosystem, leading-edge research, educational excellence, and rich natural resources. “In this pivotal general election year, it is imperative that the business community’s voice resonates at the highest levels,” she remarked. Peacock also highlighted the transformative potential of 2024, not only for the UK but for democracies worldwide, emphasizing the critical role of the CBI in driving agendas focused on stability, sustainability, and growth.
Peacock elaborated on the South West’s global leadership in innovation, advocating for policies, regulatory frameworks, and financial mechanisms that will bolster the business sector’s continued prosperity. She underscored the region’s readiness to spearhead sustainable growth, leveraging digital technology and innovation on regional, national, and international platforms.
Ben Rhodes, CBI South West Director, commended Bratt’s contributions, particularly his efforts to enhance the region’s prominence and support CBI members. “Carmen’s extensive, high-level cross-sector experience, including her impactful work with prominent brands and her comprehensive understanding of regional dynamics through her leadership role at Lloyds Bank, positions her exceptionally well to lead the CBI South West,” Rhodes stated.
Bratt reflected on his tenure with pride, noting the CBI’s pivotal role in navigating businesses through the challenges of the Covid pandemic and amplifying their voices. “It has been a privilege to serve as chair, contributing to the CBI’s mission over these past years. I am confident that the incoming leadership will continue to advance our efforts. I eagerly anticipate witnessing the positive impacts of Carmen, the regional council, and the team in this significant year for both business and politics,” Bratt expressed, extending his best wishes to the new chair and her team.
This leadership transition marks a new chapter for the CBI South West, with Peacock at the helm, poised to champion the region’s interests and foster an environment conducive to innovation and sustainable growth.
