Perched above two secluded coves on Mallorca’s storied Punta Negra headland, Mandarin Oriental’s latest property brings a fresh perspective to Balearic luxury. Opening this spring, the 131-room resort combines acclaimed culinary talent including Nobu Matsuhisa and Dani García, with spa rituals drawn from local healing traditions and Oriental wellness philosophies. Between the Aleppo pines and dramatic coastal views, this marks the group’s first foray into the Balearic Islands, promising something rather special for Mediterranean-bound travellers.

The Balearic Islands have long attracted those seeking sunshine, sophistication and a certain Mediterranean ease. Mallorca, with its dramatic coastlines and mountain backdrops, continues to reveal new possibilities for luxury hospitality, particularly when they arrive with the calibre of Mandarin Oriental and a collection of world-class chefs.
Set to welcome guests this spring, Mandarin Oriental Punta Negra occupies one of the island’s most beautiful coastal positions. The property sits in Calvià, near Puerto Portals, where Aleppo pines frame sweeping views across the Mediterranean. Exclusive access to two private coves offers a rare combination of seclusion and coastal beauty on this celebrated island.
Light and Landscape
The accommodation spans 131 rooms and suites, each designed to make the most of Mediterranean views and natural light. Hand-placed stones throughout the property showcase local craftsmanship, whilst soft neutral tones and natural materials create welcoming spaces that feel both contemporary and true to their setting.

The collection includes twenty six suites and nine intimate casitas consisting of four suites and five rooms, providing plenty of privacy and space. Of those, nineteen rooms and suites come with plunge pools, whilst three rooftop suites feature private pools. Whether travelling as a family or couple, there’s a layout to suit different needs and preferences.

Art plays an important role throughout the resort, with carefully selected works from local and international artists featured in rooms and communal areas. This creative approach extends into the gardens and terraces, where outdoor installations turn these spaces into open-air galleries that work beautifully with the coastal surroundings.
A compelling culinary line-up
The dining offering brings together established names and fresh concepts across six venues. Matsuhisa, from Nobu Matsuhisa, delivers sophisticated Nikkei-style cuisine with spectacular sea views. Master chefs prepare the freshest sashimi and sushi, whilst inventive Japanese-inspired cocktails add to the elegant atmosphere.
Leña by Dani García takes a contemporary approach to the steakhouse, celebrating fire and smoke through an open kitchen where the finest dry-aged meats take centre stage. Signature dishes like yakipinchos showcase García’s distinctive style in a setting that feels both immersive and vibrant.
Jacinta brings authentic Mexican flavours with a contemporary twist. Delicious tacos, tostadas, tamales and tortillas arrive prepared with high-quality ingredients, whilst the lively atmosphere creates a wonderful contrast within the resort’s dining portfolio.
Leppoc handles all-day dining with Mediterranean and Levantine influences, celebrating Spanish and Balearic produce through an ingredient-driven menu. The Garden Bar pairs perfectly with this, offering signature cocktails and an impressive selection of Spanish wines, including exclusive Mallorcan labels that are hard to find elsewhere.
Sobretaula embraces the alfresco tapas experience on a peaceful terrace, where elegant small plates pair beautifully with cava, house-made lemonades and signature cocktails. The setting captures that relaxed rhythm Mediterranean life does so well. Aubara, named after the gentle morning breeze, offers casual poolside dining throughout the day with light, refreshing dishes and drinks that suit Mallorca’s sunny climate perfectly.
“In our kitchen, we prioritise quality and locally sourced ingredients. Each dish tells a story – of the product, the producer, its origin and the surrounding landscape. Inspired by the sea, the land and the simplicity of authentic flavours, we cook with respect and soul to delight and fully satisfy our guests.”

Wellness rooted in place
The spa combines Mallorcan heritage with Oriental wellness philosophies across nine treatment cabins, including couple’s suites and a dedicated relaxation room. The menu features exclusive signature treatments such as the Curandero Experience, which incorporates local herbs and traditional healing practices, alongside the Tea Ceremony—a blend of Spanish and Oriental rituals that works rather beautifully.
Wellness facilities extend well beyond the treatment rooms. Two outdoor pools for adults, a children’s pool and an indoor pool sit alongside a fully equipped fitness centre. Heat and water experiences include a hydro-massage pool, steam rooms, cold plunges and aromatherapy showers, creating multiple ways to unwind and recharge.
“Perched on the iconic Punta Negra, one of Mallorca’s most cherished coastal landmarks, the resort draws deeply from the island’s timeless spirit. Every corner pays tribute to its heritage: the tranquillity of the Mediterranean, the strength of its landscapes, its artisan traditions and the warmth of its people. Here, natural beauty meets contemporary, understated luxury, creating experiences that celebrate the true art of Mallorcan living.”

A new chapter for Balearic luxury
This marks Mandarin Oriental’s third property in Spain and first resort in the Balearic Islands. The property spreads across five buildings, each taking inspiration from the island’s history, pine forests and Mediterranean setting. The design creates an immersive experience whilst maintaining that important connection to the surrounding landscape.
The position on Punta Negra delivers both drama and intimacy—a quality that defines much of what makes this resort appealing. Between the acclaimed culinary team, comprehensive wellness facilities and carefully considered design, the opening brings something genuinely exciting to Mallorca’s luxury hospitality scene. Spring 2026 will see the resort welcome its first guests to this refined Mediterranean retreat.
