Fifty years into building some of the world’s most capable bluewater sailing yachts, Oyster Yachts gathered its owners, industry figures, and the wider sailing community at London’s St Katharine Docks for its annual Private View. With four vessels on the water and a new model in early development, the event offered an opportunity to see the range assembled in one place and a clear indication of where this respected British shipyard is heading next.

Early details of a new model within the 50-foot range were shared with attendees, marking a considered step forward rather than a formal launch. The occasion also featured a discussion between the company’s chief executive and one of the most recognised names in British industry, exploring what the future of ownership means for a brand that has spent half a century building to its own standards.

The Fleet

The four yachts on display covered a broad spread of the current range. The Oyster 495, an award-winning 50-foot cruiser, sat alongside the Oyster 565SII, a sub-60-foot yacht that evolves the builder’s long-established aesthetic. The Oyster 595, a 60-foot bluewater cruiser, and the Oyster 675, a larger ocean-going sailboat suited to extended passages, completed the line-up.

For existing owners and prospective buyers, the opportunity to walk the decks and compare the range at close quarters proved a significant draw. The sheltered marina setting gave the event a character well suited to detailed conversation about the yachts and the programme being built around them.

Charting the course ahead

Wednesday evening centred on a discussion between Stefan Zimmermann Zschocke, the company’s chief executive, and Torsten Müller-Ötvös, Strategic Advisor and former chief executive of Rolls-Royce. With Stefan eight months into his tenure and Torsten one year in, their exchange covered the strategic direction of the brand, the future shape of the ownership experience, and the question of what should evolve and what should remain unchanged. The discussion was moderated by Lyndsay McClay, Non-Executive Director and President-Elect of British Marine.

The exchange reinforced a clear philosophy: craftsmanship, considered design, and understated luxury are not features to be periodically refreshed but principles to be protected. Modernisation serves the ownership experience, whether through sustainability, digital integration, or a more connected journey afloat and ashore.

The new 50-footer

The event offered the first public glimpse of a new model in the 50-foot range currently in development. Oyster was deliberate in presenting this as an early indication of direction rather than a product reveal.

The concept rethinks onboard space, with particular attention to the aft deck, producing a more open interior with stronger connection to the water. At anchor, the layout creates a natural beach club environment without compromising offshore performance.

“Modernisation is essential where it serves to enhance rather than overshadow. For Oyster, that means merging traditional craftsmanship with contemporary values, without losing sight of what defines us. Our new 50-foot development is a clear expression of this, raising the standard of space, usability and onboard experience while staying completely true to what an Oyster is. At the same time, we are continuing to expand our ownership ecosystem, creating a more connected, supported and enriching experience both on and off the water. This is an early indication of where we are heading, with much more to come in the months ahead.”

The ownership programme

The ownership experience at Oyster runs well beyond the point of delivery. Initiatives including the Oyster World Rally, the Oyster Explorers Club, and the Bluewater Academy form the structure of a connected ecosystem designed to support owners wherever they choose to cruise, regardless of the experience they bring aboard.

A recently announced partnership with Henri Lloyd adds a further dimension. The collaboration brings together two British heritage names with shared values around technical performance and real-world capability at sea, a practical pairing for owners who hold the same expectations of their sailing kit as they do of the yacht itself.

Built to last

Every Oyster is handcrafted in the United Kingdom, combining established boatbuilding skills with contemporary production technology. With limited annual output, each yacht carries the scarcity that comes naturally from building at this level. The company has logged more than 20 million bluewater sailing miles and over 100 circumnavigations across its history, a record that speaks to the standard of construction and the confidence it gives owners to venture offshore.

With the new 50-footer in development and a leadership team with a clear sense of direction, the brand moves forward from a steady position. The founding principles of long-range offshore capability, comfort, and performance remain the reference point, and the focus is on expressing them with greater depth and relevance for a new generation of owners.
