Created by Splendid Sea AG in partnership with Mercedes-Maybach, and developed with Mercedes-Benz Design, this invitation-only superyacht membership strips away the weight of ownership while preserving everything that makes yachting compelling: rare destinations, impeccable service, and a private circle of people who share the same appetite for considered, unhurried living. Yacht ownership has long sat at the very pinnacle of the luxury life. The freedom to chart your own course, to arrive at the world’s most coveted harbours on your own terms, and to do so under one of the most recognisable symbols of personal achievement: few things compare. Yet a remarkable new proposition is emerging, one that asks whether the finest experience at sea might be available without a single vessel in your name.

The Maybach Ocean Club offers exactly that. Developed in close collaboration with Mercedes-Benz Design and founded by Splendid Sea AG in partnership with Mercedes-Maybach, the club grants its members access to a world of superyacht living that is curated, consistent, and entirely free from the obligations that ownership demands. Private, invitation-only, and limited in membership to preserve both intimacy and exclusivity, this is one of the most considered offerings the luxury world has produced in recent years.

The heritage behind it is genuine. Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach are credited with building one of the first motorboats powered by an internal combustion engine, and the brand’s maritime connection stretches back to the 1920s, when its technical expertise extended to powering early automobiles, aircraft, and boats. This is a name that has always understood the water.

A membership shaped by restraint

Membership to the Maybach Ocean Club is by invitation only, and numbers are deliberately kept limited to preserve both intimacy and privacy. This is a considered choice rather than a marketing device. A smaller community means more meaningful encounters, more flexibility in scheduling, and a level of personal service that larger programmes cannot replicate. The yacht itself carries the Maybach signature throughout its design, with every detail shaped by the brand’s characteristic precision.

The vessel was custom built by Dölker + Voges, an architecture and design firm recognised for work that prioritises both aesthetic integrity and function. Every element aboard reflects the collaborative vision between Splendid Sea AG and Mercedes-Maybach, ensuring that the physical environment is consistent with the broader experience the club promises.

Beyond charter, beyond ownership

The Maybach Ocean Club occupies a position that neither conventional yacht ownership nor standard charter fully addresses. Ownership locks members into a single asset and the perpetual demands that come with it. Charter, by contrast, is transactional and often repetitive. The club’s model is designed to offer something more coherent: a consistent standard of service, familiar faces, and curated itineraries, without the administrative friction that ownership demands.

“We saw an opportunity to create a new model that enhances the joys of yachting without the burden of management and maintenance,” said Michael Hehn, Co-Founder and Managing Director of Maybach Ocean Club. “This club reflects Maybach’s spirit of innovation, but also speaks to something timeless, sharing special places and experiences with people who matter most in our lives.”

Destinations and the rhythm of belonging

The club’s voyages span iconic global destinations, from St. Barths to Sardinia, with itineraries shaped around the places members actually want to reach. Bespoke shore excursions and curated port experiences form part of the offering, ensuring that life on the water connects meaningfully with life on land. The emphasis throughout is on ease: arriving in the right place, at the right moment, without the logistical demands that ownership typically imposes.

Captain Matthias Bosse, Co-Founder and Managing Director, described the club’s ethos plainly: “Whether sailing to St. Barths or Sardinia, every journey is about more than travel; it is a chance to build lifelong memories and lasting friendships.” The private circle of members, he noted, is central to the experience, with shared time aboard the yacht, in the water, and on excursions forming the foundation of lasting connections.

A name synonymous with distinction

Mercedes-Maybach has consistently positioned itself at the furthest edge of the luxury market, guided by the founding philosophy of “the very best of the very best.” Markus Bauer, Head of Mercedes-Maybach, noted that the superyacht carries the brand’s signature in every detail, an assertion backed by the level of design involvement from Mercedes-Benz Design and the quality of the vessel’s construction.

The ocean club is a natural extension of that ambition. Luxury at this level is rarely about excess; it is about coherence, continuity, and the confidence that comes from knowing every detail has been considered. For those invited to join, the Maybach Ocean Club offers precisely that: access to a world shaped by serious intent, where the sea itself becomes the setting for a different kind of life.
