Bar Leone has retained its place at the top of The World’s 50 Best Bars, putting Hong Kong at the centre of this year’s global cocktail conversation. Three more venues from the city also earned places in the top 50, reflecting a scene that combines distinct identities with a shared emphasis on hospitality.
The results place ARGO at No. 25, Montana at No. 36 and GOKAN at No. 41. Four additional Hong Kong bars appeared in the extended 51 to 100 ranking, giving the city eight represented venues across the wider list. The breadth of the showing points to more than one successful formula, with hotel bars, neighbourhood rooms and international ideas all contributing to the city’s appeal.
A neighbourhood idea with global reach
Bar Leone was opened in 2023 by bartender Lorenzo Antinori and co-founder Justin Shun Wah. The Central venue draws inspiration from Trastevere, the Roman neighbourhood associated with relaxed streetside life, and applies that influence to a contemporary Hong Kong setting.
Its approach centres on familiar drinks, convivial service and an atmosphere intended to feel open rather than formal. That combination has helped the bar build a strong identity in a city where visitors can choose between polished hotel settings and smaller, more intimate venues. The latest ranking extends a rapid rise that has already seen Bar Leone recognised across regional and global lists.
Four venues, four distinct perspectives
ARGO, inside the Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong, returns to the top 50 at No. 25. Its place adds a hotel-based perspective to the city’s showing, where thoughtful drinks programmes sit alongside the broader service and dining offer of an international property.
Montana enters at No. 36, while GOKAN takes No. 41. Their inclusion adds further variety to the group, showing how Hong Kong’s reputation is supported by venues with different settings and approaches rather than a single style. The extended list’s four further local entries also suggest that interest reaches beyond the best-known names.
Hospitality as part of the city experience
For travellers, a city’s bar scene can offer an accessible way to understand its character. Hong Kong brings together long-established dining traditions, international influences and a fast-moving hospitality sector. Bars contribute to that mix by creating places where residents and visitors can meet over a well-made drink without needing a formal occasion.
Bar Leone’s Roman inspiration, interpreted in Central, is one example of how a clear point of view can travel while remaining rooted in its location. The city’s other ranked venues bring different perspectives, broadening the offer for guests who value considered ingredients, attentive service and a memorable sense of place.
A strong showing across the rankings
Having four venues in the top 50 and four more in the extended 51 to 100 ranking gives Hong Kong an unusually deep presence in the latest results. The achievement recognises individual bars while also drawing attention to the city’s wider hospitality talent, from the people behind the drinks to the teams shaping each guest experience.
Bar Leone’s repeat No. 1 position is the headline, but the wider list tells a more complete story. ARGO, Montana and GOKAN each add to the city’s profile, while the additional entries point to a lively range of places still gaining international attention. For Hong Kong, the result is both a celebration of established craft and an invitation to explore beyond one celebrated address.
With the city represented across multiple styles and settings, its bar scene offers visitors another reason to spend time in Hong Kong and discover how local hospitality continues to develop.
