ScottishPower has strategically bolstered its executive team with the appointments of Charles Langan as Chief Financial Officer and Nicola Connelly as Chief Executive of SP Energy Networks. These key appointments underscore ScottishPower’s commitment to strong leadership and its focus on driving value through significant investments and forward-thinking strategies.
Charles Langan, who has been an integral part of the Iberdrola Group’s financial framework, steps into the role of CFO with a wealth of experience. His career includes pivotal senior finance roles both in the UK and Spain, where he managed the Iberdrola Group’s Fixed Income Investor Relations. His most recent role as ScottishPower’s Finance and Resources Director saw him overseeing vital financial operations, ensuring the company’s financial resilience during a period of extensive growth.
The transition at SP Energy Networks sees Nicola Connelly succeeding Vicky Kelsall, who retires after an illustrious 30-year career with ScottishPower and the wider Iberdrola Group. Kelsall’s tenure included significant contributions to the group’s North American ventures, including PacifiCorp and Avangrid, culminating in her appointment as CEO of SP Energy Networks in 2022. Her retirement marks the end of a distinguished career that has left a lasting legacy within the company.
Nicola Connelly brings with her an impressive track record of leadership within ScottishPower. Since joining the company in 1995, she has held various senior positions, demonstrating exceptional leadership and a deep understanding of the company’s operations. Notably, she served as Finance Director of SP Energy Networks before being appointed Control & Administration Director of ScottishPower in July 2021. Her expertise and experience within the company make her an ideal successor to lead SP Energy Networks through its next phase of development.
Keith Anderson, CEO of ScottishPower, expressed his confidence in the new appointments, highlighting the importance of Langan and Connelly’s roles in the company’s ambitious £12 billion investment plan. Anderson emphasised their “proven track records of strategic vision, strong leadership, and consistent delivery,” which will be critical as ScottishPower embarks on a series of major projects across its business.
Anderson also took the opportunity to acknowledge the contributions of Vicky Kelsall, whose dedication and leadership have significantly shaped the company. “I’d like to thank Vicky for her accomplishments, dedication, and commitment to the company, and it is with great respect that I wish her a happy and well-deserved retirement,” Anderson remarked.
These appointments come at a time of significant activity for ScottishPower, as the company continues to expand its footprint in the renewable energy sector and enhance the resilience of its energy networks. The leadership of Langan and Connelly is expected to play a pivotal role in steering the company through the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead, ensuring that ScottishPower remains at the forefront of the energy industry.
